Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna has a 101.6 GPA and was also a finalist in the prestigious Intel Science competition.
Long Island, New York’s high school valedictorian Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna has been accepted into all eight Ivy League colleges -Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Cornell, University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth and Brown —a rare and impressive feat.
Uwamanzu-Nna attributes her accomplishment to “tenacity and persistence” and says there are no secrets and no shortcuts to academic success.
The daughter of Nigerian parents says her immigrant experience has helped shape her perspective. “Though I was born here in America, I visited Nigeria many times,” she said. “I’ve seen that my cousins don’t have the same opportunities that I have. So definitely, whatever I do, I want to make sure it has an impact on Nigeria.”
Uwamanzu-Nna also has a passion for science. Earlier this year she was named Intel Science Talent Search National Finalist for her research on cement that could help prevent underwater oilrigs from rupturing. On Monday she will receive an invitation to the White House Science Fair.
As for which college she’ll be attending, the bubbly teen says she hasn’t decided yet.
We know that any school would be lucky to accommodate all of her Black girl magic!
