Been blinded by sequins lately? Then you may have spotted Jana Yasmeen Hicks, an Atlanta fashionista who has a love for all things glittery. Jana, in one fashion-forward ensemble after another, is always at the city’s hottest parties and events. Plus, as a producer at Metromix Atlanta (the web site that covers everything in arts, entertainment, restaurants, bars and clubs), Jana gets to call that work. In addition to snapping pictures for Metromix herself, she also manages the site’s incredibly popular photo galleries. She’s also building her search engine optimization skills and is always expanding her marketing expertise. Of course, you may also recognize her from Facebook or Twitter—Jana’s a social media expert who uses the networking sites for both work and fun. In fact, connecting to people is her calling and she’s always helping her friends out with advice. Recently, named one of “Who’s Who in Black Atlanta 20 Female Powerhouses of 2010,” is friends with some city’s most elite figures. Even with all her A-list buddies, her biggest inspiration is her pre-teen son Joshua, who makes her want to reach higher than ever. The next time you see her, she may just be wearing a tiara that marks her as queen of the multimedia universe.
Hello, have we met?
Hey Everybody! I’m Shavaun aka Shavaun Rene, aka Black Martha, aka Mommy Diva, aka Ms. DIY (you get the point). I’m a West Coast based MUVA of two extraordinary handsome, intelligent and just flat out dope boys (Ebraheem and Elijah). I used to think the world revolved me and my busy schedule until mom-reality sunk in and I realized, it’s really not all about me. Tuh! Before starting a family, I did just about everything from working in bars, to freelance journalism, marketing and public relations. My foundation has always been communications and finance. I have both an AA and BA in Communications (Organizational Development) and currently pursuing my Master’s in Healthcare Management. I have always had ambitions of being in leadership and mentoring people to accomplish their goals! Its a gift to be able to work with people of different backgrounds and demographics, so I make sure I don’t take my responsibilities lightly. I’ve been in the healthcare field for the past 8 years but my love for social media, event planning and communications has never wavered. If anything, it’s grown since having kids! I guess I’m what you would call a social butterfly who is always out fluttering her Swarovski crystal embellished wings! If you can’t tell already- I’m a girls- girl all the way and I have a constant need for my girl time! I love anything shiny and blingy… I’m a shopaholic with an extreme addiction to shoes and accessories (purses, wallets, jewelry, hats, etc).
I’m so excited about the opportunity to bring Black Family Fun to your fingertips! At the end of the day, I’m just a mom who wants to create life long memories for my family and hopefully for yours too.
